Visa requirement for my wife and son (Australian citizens)

My wife and son plan to visit Dubai for 2 months. My wife's mother will meet them there and we also have friends from Australia who are working permanently in Dubai. What type of visa do they need to apply for, is it issued on arrival and how long is it valid for.
