Dubai Visa requirements for US citizen

My wife and I will be visiting Dubai for 5 days in September. Do we need to apply for a visa before arriving. I have heard that the hotel maybe able to issue a visa for our stay when we arrive.

If you have US passports, you can get a visa upon arriving in Dubai.
