Do I need visa to visit Dubai if I am holding American passport? what it cost?

Only few citizens (citizen of GCC) does not require an entry visa to enable to come to Dubai. But American passport holder are lucky that they could apply an entry visa upon arrival in the airport. Some reports are stating that those citizen who belong to a certain category could obtain a 30 days visit visa for free of charge but as per the table of visa fees, its mentioning an amount of AED 620.
